THE RECORD OF DECEMBER: FATHERS

Playing cards come solely as triggers for my ancestral spirits' words, but they especially like to come with poetry + embedded codes when divining this way.

Let us see what they have to say to us (me, Black people, the world) today.

•••••••••••••••••

This is the second time Joker has shown itself in the Records this year, and only two months after the first instance at that.

JOKER

The time has run.

The time has none.

Our fathers fathom what we cannot comprehend, and we look to them for guidance at this time. The rocks who guide us, the paternal uncles of the trees, the silence of the wind, and the guardians of nature. The ones who hold these values are the ones who will teach us how to weather this storm.

Being weathered is not a sign of bad news, but a sign of change. A sign of tracing. How elegant we must find it to be attaching it to such old age? The grace and dignity cannot be man-made anywhere.

Listen to the fathers for guidance. For when they tell us to run, we must go. Without looking back. When they tell us to hold on, they must let us go + give us the chance to choose. It is time for us to pick our sides, for agency to have us, and us have it.

Which sides will you choose?

Where is it that you will stay warm? And does it matter if it burns the others?

Think about what you're doing, and see if you can find the ethics/wisdom in it. The time is gone, but only for you to choose your fates/face.

ACCOMPANYING SONGS FOR THOSE OBSERVING

THE RECORD OF DECEMBER:

1977 x Ana Tijoux

(lyrics + translation)

+

Shim el Yasmine x Mashrou’ Leila

(lyrics + translation)

Tijoux’s 1977 speaks to us on honoring the past, the memories that continue to push us to where we are and need to be. Being guided and letting the instruments of our forefathers carry us. Mashrou’s Leila’s Shim el Yasmine comes to support the flow of withering, sadness, the gift that our memories bring, and how grief is all in the same bag. Together, they accompany us to teach their own fathering guidance. May we be receptive to the lessons we receive.
